Approval, availability and NHS access are three different questions. A new authorisation answers the first.
What changed?
On 11 June 2026, the MHRA announced UK approval of semaglutide tablets, marketed as Wegovy, for weight loss and weight management in eligible adults. The medicine remains prescription-only.
What about access?
The announcement stated that the tablet was not then available through the NHS and that decisions on NHS use would follow established evaluation processes. That statement describes the position on the announcement date; it is not a live availability check.
What about risks?
The MHRA listed gastrointestinal effects, including nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting, among the most common side effects. The patient leaflet contains fuller safety information.
